The PRS was created to promote and grow the sport of long-range precision shooting competition in a safe, fair and practical manner for shooters of all skill levels and ages.
It consists of three series:
Bolt Gun Series, Gas Gun Series, and Club Series.
Note: The Gas Gun series as described in the link below is currently not accurate. The competition described included pistol shooting and rifle stages that were different from the bolt gun requirements. Gas guns are currently included as a separate category but compete head-to-head with the bolt guns at distances exceeding 1000 yards. Many PRS competitors don't consider gas guns to be accurate enough to be competitive at the extended bolt gun ranges.

The PRS combines Military, Law Enforcement and Hunting scenarios in practical applications of precise shooting skill. It is an annual points race in a national format providing structure and tracking of scores from local, regional and national events.
